Arguably Ireland’s greatest rock band, the guitar work on this album has inspired generations of musicians, as has the unique voice and lyrics of lead singer and bass player Phil Lynott.

For Tom and Charles who answered phones. The guitar driven power pop of Matthew Sweet owes some of its sound to Thin Lizzy.

Another Irish rock band that hit it big in the 90s and claims Thin Lizzy as an influence.

“See No Evil” – Television – Marquee Moon

Released one year after Jailbreak, Television were doing something completely different with their twin guitar attack that proved to be just as highly influential.

“You Got Me Floating” – Joan Jett & The Blackhearts – Good Music

In honor of her induction into the Rock Hall this weekend, Joan Jett sported can claim the rock of Thin Lizzy as an influence.

“Still Raining, Still Dreaming” – The Jimi Hendrix Experience – Electric Ladyland

The opening chord of this Hendrix track matches the beginning of “Jailbreak.”

“Long Away” – Queen – A Day At The Races

Also released in 1976, Queen were known for their guitar harmonizing as well.

“The Blues Are Still Blue” – Belle & Sebastian – The Life Pursuit [By Request]

For Brandt! This guitar sound on this track is influenced by Thin Lizzy.

“The Man’s A Fool” – Phil Lynott – The Phil Lynott Album

A solo 80s cut from Thin Lizzy’s frontman.

Phil Lynott was lyrically influenced by Van Morrison, also form Ireland.

Bob Dylan also influenced the poetic, storytelling lyrics of Thin Lizzy.
