“WRUW Listens Back” plays recordings of alumni DJs, premieres Monday September 11 at 12pm

In WRUW’s 50th year, we remember some of the shows and programmers of the past with the premiere of “WRUW Listens Back”, Monday, September 11, 2017 at noon.  This weekly one-hour program will feature archive tapes of shows of some of WRUW’s longest-running and best-known DJs.  “For our 50th anniversary, we wanted to remember some of the great programs of our past, that helped get us to where we are today.” said Jim Szabo, producer of the series.  “The station has very little in the way of recorded history itself; we’ve relied on the private collections of the programmers and general public to put this series together.”

Here’s the schedule for the month of September:

September 11 – “When the Roses Bloom Again” from 2010-04-08, hosted by “Cuzin’ Dave Wilson” (David Newman).  Dave, a staff member from 1972 until his unexpected death in 2010, was the heart and soul of WRUW for close to forty years.  His “country roots and branches” gave “twang” a permanent place on northeast Ohio’s radio landscape.

September 18 – “Annie’s Blues Show” from 1996-10-07, hosted by “Annie” (Ann Weatherhead).  Cleveland’s “Queen of the Blues” reigned from 1980 to 1998.  This show features an interview with local blues legend Jimmy Ley.

September 25 – “Definitely Downtown” from 1987-11-29, with host Don Sebian.  Don played the best of in- and out-jazz from 1980 to 1994.  Remember “Bebop for Breakfast” (Friday mornings, 1981-1982)?  Don will also join Jim Szabo live on “Down by the Cuyahoga”, Friday September 29, 2017 at 11pm, to reminisce and play some of his favorite recent jazz sounds.

“WRUW Listens Back” will feature all types of programs from the past twenty-five years (and maybe older than that!).  If you have a recording of WRUW’s past you would like to share, email Jim Szabo at [email protected]  .
