SUMMARY:Brian Jonestown Massacre
DESCRIPTION:Tue Sep 16\, 2025 \nAges: All Ages\nDoors Open: 7:00 PM\n\n\nNamed in tribute to the legendary Rolling Stones guitarist and his influence in introducing Eastern culture and music into the world of Western rock & roll\, the Brian Jonestown Massacre formed in San Francisco\, CA\, in 1990. Some 40 different members passed through the group’s ranks over the next half-decade\, but their focal point always remained singer/guitarist Anton Newcombe\, who along with bassist Matt Hollywood\, guitarist Dean Taylor\, organist Mara Regal\, accordionist Dawn Thomas\, drummer Brian Glaze\, and “Spokesperson for the Revolution” Joel Gion\, recorded the Massacre’s 1995 shoegazer-influenced debut LP\, ‘Methodrone.’ A collection of early recordings\, ‘Spacegirl and Other Favorites\,’ followed on the band’s own Tangible label in early 1996\, and was the first of four Brian Jonestown Massacre LPs to appear that year. Next up was the brilliant\, ‘Their Satanic Majesties’ Second Request\,’ a full-blown homage to the Stones’ glorious psychedelic-era excesses. Recorded live in the studio\, the grittier ‘Take It from the Man!’ found the band exploring even broader territory. Finally\, the year ended with the release of ‘Thank God for Mental Illness\,’ a showcase for strong country and blues leanings. \nIn 1997\, the BJM — now consisting of Newcombe\, Hollywood\, Gion\, Taylor\, Peter Hayes and drummer Brad Artley — resurfaced with ‘Give It Back!’ After signing to TVT\, they released ‘Strung Out in Heaven’ the following year\, but the band’s own eccentricities kept them from staying on the label. After a few scattered EPs\, they resurfaced in 2001 with ‘Bravery\, Repetition and Noise\,’ distributed by Bomp. ‘And This Is Our Music’ followed in 2003. Despite a continued lack of major distribution\, the Brian Jonestown Massacre earned the largest profile of their career in 2004\, when the band became the unlikely focus of an award-winning documentary\, ‘DIG!\,’ which charted the trials of Newcombe and those of his rival\, Courtney Taylor\, leader of the Dandy Warhols. The ‘We Are the Radio’ EP followed in August 2005. \nThree years later\, Anton Newcombe reinvented the band as he had obtained all the releases of his past albums & formed his own label\, ‘a’ Recordings. His first new album on this label was ‘My Bloody Underground\,’ featuring yet another lineup and a hint of shoegaze and noise pop. ‘Who Killed Sgt Pepper?’ followed shortly after\, being made available in streaming format at the end of 2009 and receiving an official release on February 27th\, 2010.

SUMMARY:Sparks - MAD! Tour
DESCRIPTION:Doors 7 PM | Show 8 PM \nALL AGES \nSparks is an American pop and rock duo formed by brothers Ron (keyboards) and Russell Mael (vocals) in Pacific Palisades\, Los Angeles in 1971. The duo is noted for their quirky approach to songwriting; their music is often accompanied by sophisticated and acerbic lyrics—often about women\, and sometimes containing literary or cinematic references—and an idiosyncratic\, theatrical stage presence\, typified by the contrast between Russell’s animated\, hyperactive frontman antics and Ron’s deadpan scowling. Russell Mael has a distinctive wide-ranging voice\, while Ron Mael plays keyboards in an intricate and rhythmic style. Their frequently changing styles and visual presentations have kept the band at the forefront of modern\, artful pop music.

SUMMARY:Molly Tuttle w/ Town Mountain\, Cecilia Castleman
DESCRIPTION:Doors 7 PM | Show 8 PM \nALL AGES \nOn the heels of two Grammy-winning albums in succession\, with her band Golden Highway—2022’s Crooked Tree and 2023’s City of Gold—plus a nomination for Best New Artist\, Molly Tuttle returns with a solo album that’s her most dazzling to date: So Long Little Miss Sunshine. \nRecorded in Nashville with producer Jay Joyce (Orville Peck\, Miranda Lambert\, Lainey Wilson\, Eric Church\, Cage the Elephant)\, the fifth full album from the California-born\, Nashville-based singer\, songwriter\, and virtuoso guitarist features twelve new songs—eleven originals and one highly unexpected cover of Icona Pop and Charli xcx’s “I Love It.” \nTuttle’s career\, which began at age fifteen\, has charted a course between honoring bluegrass and stretching its boundaries. On this album—a hybrid of pop\, country\, rock\, and flat-picking\, plus one murder ballad—she goes to a whole new place. Her stunning guitar work is more up-front on this album than ever before. (One of the most decorated female guitarist alive\, Tuttle was the first woman to win the prestigious International Bluegrass Music Award’s Guitar Player of the Year in 2017\, at age twenty-four\, and won again the following year\, with nominations nearly every year since; she has also won Americana Music Association’s Instrumentalist of the Year award.) So Long Little Miss Sunshine also features Tuttle playing banjo\, something she’s never done on one of her albums before. \n“I like to be a bit of a chameleon with my music\,” she says. “Keep people guessing and keep it full of surprises.” \nTuttle has been slowly building this collection of songs over the last five years\, while also writing and releasing two hugely successful albums and a six-song EP (last year’s Into the Wild) and playing more than 100 shows each year with Golden Highway. Along the way she’d send songs to Joyce\, who she first started talking to about collaborating on the album a few years ago. \n“I’ve been wanting to make this record for such a long time. Part of me was scared to do such a big departure\, and that went into the album title So Long Little Miss Sunshine. It’s like\, ‘You know what? I’m just not going to care what people think. I’m going to do what I want.’” \nThe album was recorded with a group of musicians that includes drummer/percussionists Jay Bellerose and Fred Eltringham\, bassist Byron House\, and Joyce on multiple instruments. Ketch Secor (Old Crow Medicine Show) also plays banjo\, fiddle\, and harmonica\, as well as singing harmony. \nTuttle also conceived the artwork for So Long Little Miss Sunshine\, which features multiple Mollys\, each wearing a different wig except for one with nothing on her head at all. (“I probably own as many wigs as I own guitars\,” she says.) Tuttle has been bald since she was three years old due to the autoimmune condition alopecia areata; she acts as a spokesperson for the National Alopecia Areata Foundation. \n“I love raising awareness\,” she says. “I talk about it onstage a lot and broaden it to include anyone who’s ever had something that makes them stick out and look or feel different from others. Playing my song ‘Crooked Tree’ live is very meaningful to me\, because it’s a moment where sometimes I’ll take off my wig and talk about my struggles with self-acceptance.” \nOne album track\, “Old Me (New Wig)\,” is “about leaving all these things behind that don’t serve you anymore\,” she says. “Parts of yourself that really aren’t in your best interest\, like low self-esteem\, anxieties\, and not feeling confident. Learning to own these different aspects of my personality but not letting them control me is another theme of the record that inspired the album title and the cover art. Those are all things I’ve struggled with through the years—just feeling like an impostor\, like I wasn’t good enough. I like singing this song because there are days when I still have to tell myself to leave that stuff behind.’” \nMost of the So Long Little Miss Sunshine songs were co-written with Secor\, who is also Tuttle’s partner. “We spend so much time together\, we live together\, and anytime I have a song idea\, or he has one\, it’s just so easy to transition from whatever we’re doing into writing a song.” \nAlthough they were written in different times and circumstances\, Tuttle found to her surprise that the songs were all tied together by interwoven themes. The opening track\, “Everything Burns”—a dark\, intense\, big-guitar song—was written in 2020\, during the chaos and division of the start of the Covid pandemic. It might as easily refer to the current chaos and division in America since Election Day 2024\, though. In fact\, they recorded it the day after the election. \nThere are several songs about traveling—sometimes down the open road\, like “Highway Knows” and “Oasis”—but also back in time\, as on “Easy” and “Golden State of Mind.” \nThe record also tells “a kind of coming-of-age story\,” Tuttle says. “‘Golden State of Mind’ is one of the songs I feel is a through-line to that. It makes me think about people I’ve been close to in the past that I’ve drifted away from\, and about growing up and figuring out who you are.” \nThat theme is in turn picked up in the beautiful ballad “No Regrets\,” one of the last songs Tuttle wrote for the album. “It’s about looking back on your life and thinking\, ‘Well\, maybe I could have done things differently\, but if I hadn’t made certain mistakes or gone down certain roads\, then I wouldn’t be here.’ And I really like where I am now!” \nSo Long Little Miss Sunshine closes\, as her last two albums did\, with an autobiographical song\, “Story of My So-Called Life.” “This is me looking back on my life\, from growing up to going to school in Boston to moving to Nashville to where I am now—taking stock of all these pivotal moments throughout my life that made me who I am. I feel like after I’ve said so much in all the other songs\, it’s just kind of nice to end it on a note of\, ‘Here’s how this all came to be\,’” she says. \n***** \nEarlier this year\, Tuttle played guitar and sang on Ringo Starr’s new country album\, Look Up. She also played with him and a host of other stellar musical guests at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium and Grand Ole Opry as part of his televised Ringo & Friends shows. She was inspired by his fearlessness in following his passion for country music. “It is cool to see someone like that who has done everything you could imagine doing in a music career and he’s still just so psyched and still has a list of things that he wants to accomplish\,” Tuttle says. \nLooking back on her own career\, Tuttle admits that she also has pursued what interests her: “It has never been a cookie-cutter thing where I’m just going down a straight road. I always had this crooked path.”

SUMMARY:Whitney w/ Folk Bitch Trio - MOVED TO BEACHLAND!
DESCRIPTION:Doors 7 PM | Show 8 PM \nALL AGES \nRestlessness is at the heart of Whitney’s resonant and stunning sophomore album Forever Turned Around. As Julien Ehrlich and Max Kakacek realized over the past three years\, life can change drastically. Priorities shift\, relationships evolve\, home can become far away\, and even when luck momentarily works out\, there’s still that underlying search for something better. \nWhile the success of their 2016 debut Light Upon The Lake uprooted them away from Chicago to seemingly endless tours across the world\, Ehrlich’s and Kakacek’s partnership only strengthened. “Our friendship has kept us going even though so much has happened in the years since we started the band\,” says Ehrlich. Their bond has been the one constant as they’ve weathered the transitional period of their mid-twenties\, supporting each other through bouts of heartache\, loss\, and uncertainty. But lately\, as they’ve found home through themselves\, their romantic relationships\, and their friends\, there’s an uneasiness that comes from stability. When Ehrlich sings on “Valleys (My Love)\,” “There’s fire burning in the trees / Maybe life is the way it seems” it’s a mission statement of the existential questions raised throughout. \nThis is what Forever Turned Around grapples with: the anxiety and acceptance that time is limited. Across 10 songs\, Ehrlich and Kakacek skeptically yet masterfully navigate questions of mortality\, doubt\, love\, and friendship in a grander scope than they’ve attempted before. It’s an album about partnership — romantic\, familial and communal\, but most importantly a love in friendship: the bonds between two best friends and creative partners and the joy and stress that comes with it. As Ehrlich sings on “Used To Be Lonely:” ‘Well it made no sense at all / Until you came along.” It tackles the blissful confusion that comes from seeing the way things unexpectedly change over time.

SUMMARY:An Evening with Broncho
DESCRIPTION:Doors 7 PM | Show 8 PM \nALL AGES \nPrepare to be spellbound. Broncho’s fifth studio album\, Natural Pleasure\, doesn’t just flirt with greatness—it obliterates boundaries and redefines what an indie rock album can be. This is more than music; it’s an odyssey of sound\, a kaleidoscopic dreamscape where lo-fi textures collide with psychedelic wonder. Imagine Radiohead’s Kid A filtered through a haze of pot smoke and reimagined for a generation craving both grit and transcendence. This is an album meant to be savored with headphones\, a masterful contender for Indie Rock Album of the Year and a long-playing experience that invites listeners to lose themselves in its rich textures and hypnotic soundscapes. \nBroncho has always been synonymous with reinvention\, and Natural Pleasure marks their boldest transformation yet. This long-awaited follow-up to 2018’s Bad Behavior dives headfirst into lush\, hypnotic atmospheres without abandoning the raw\, gritty energy that made them a household name in indie rock. The Tulsa-based quartet—Ryan Lindsey (vocals)\, Ben King (guitar)\, Penny Pitchlynn (bass)\, and Nathan Price (drums)—has crafted a sound that’s as intimate as it is otherworldly\, blending introspection with euphoric release. \nSince their breakout hit “Class Historian” in 2014\, Broncho has been at the forefront of indie innovation\, earning accolades from legends like Josh Homme and Jack White. Their music\, equal parts gritty rock and dreamy psychedelia\, has found its way onto HBO’s Girls\, Apple’s Platonic\, and FX’s Reservation Dogs\, further cementing their status as cultural touchstones. But Tulsa remains their spiritual home\, a city whose musical lineage—from Leon Russell and JJ Cale to The Flaming Lips—infuses every note they play.

SUMMARY:Wild Rivers w/ verygently
DESCRIPTION:Doors 7 PM | Show 8 PM \nALL AGES \nPlatinum-selling indie trio Wild Rivers\, Khalid Yassein [guitar\, vocals\, keys]\, Devan Glover [vocals]\, and Andrew Oliver [lead guitar\, synths]\, have a gift for penning introspective lyrics and genre-fluid melodies that transmit wisdom beyond their years. That expertise can be found across their new album\, Better Now —a companion to their latest record\, Never Better\, released this past July. \nRecorded at the same time in Joshua Tree\, CA with producer Gabe Wax (known for his work with artists such as Soccer Mommy and Adrienne Lenker)\, both Never Better and Better Now are filled with the band’s “inventive melodies\, rich harmonies\, and lush instrumentals” (Associated Press) and reflect their personal and creative growth the past few years\, as they’ve faced burnout\, mental health challenges and the complicated\, confusing and unknown realities of life in their twenties. \nBorn in Canada\, Khalid\, who is half-Egyptian\, and Devan\, who spent her childhood in London\, England\, before returning to Canada\, first connected at Queen’s University in Kingston in 2013. Starting out as an acoustic singer-songwriter project\, Khalid and Devan expanded their aesthetic to a more full-bodied sound\, adding multi-instrumentalist Andrew\, whom Khalid calls their “Swiss army knife.” \nSonically\, Wild Rivers pull from a spectrum of sounds\, imbuing pop\, rock\, indie\, and folk into each song’s blueprint. Devan explains\, “We all converge on the classic songwriters. Paul Simon\, Joni Mitchell\, Neil Young\, Fleetwood Mac\, The Beatles and Elton John. Then today\, we have influences across the map\, indie\, hip hop\, R&B\, and pop. SUMMARY:Liquid Mike w/ Runaway Brother & Cool Party
DESCRIPTION:Doors 7 PM | Show 8 PM \nALL AGES \nLiquid Mike is an indie power pop rock band from Marquette\, MI\, in the Upper Peninsula. Liquid Mike began in 2021 and is the product of Mike Maple’s pop-rock song writing. The band features a cast of U.P. standouts including Monica Nelson\, Dave Daignault\, Zack Alworden\, Cody Marecek. Liquid Mike inhabits a sweet spot in the musical pantheon: catchy\, well- crafted guitar and vocal hooks that will snag any fan of power-pop/pop rock. Liquid Mike invokes a relatable feeling of nostalgia with everyday lyrics of the quickly-receding flavor of Big League Chew bubblegum\, drinking beer from used marinara sauce jars in college\, and every 4th hand rust-bucket of a car you ever drove in a Great Lakes snowstorm. They self- released their fifth LP\, “Paul Bunyan’s Slingshot” on Feb 2nd 2024.

SUMMARY:Deep Sea Diver w/ Meerna
DESCRIPTION:THU July 24\, 2025 \nALL AGES \nDoors: 7 PM \nIn the middle of July 2023 in a Los Angeles studio\, Deep Sea Diver mastermind Jessica Dobson took a guitar solo but somehow felt nothing. Just days earlier\, her Seattle band played a series of semi-secret shows for devotees at a hometown bar\, de facto rehearsals for cutting a new record. The sets had gone well\, but\, almost immediately\, the sessions didn’t. The songs’ essence seemed muddled\, Dobson’s conviction lost somewhere in the 1\,000 miles between Southern California and the home studio she shares with partner\, drummer\, and frequent cowriter Peter Mansen. On that first night in Los Angeles\, she broke down\, wondering what she was doing there\, what her band could do to fix it. For the first time ever\, Deep Sea Diver retreated\, heading home without an album. Did they need to scrap it all\, to begin again with new material? \nNot at all: Following a brief break\, Dobson found a renewed sense of self\, a trust in her vision for her band and songs and her ability to capture them. After that Los Angeles hiccup\, longtime collaborator Andy Park asked Dobson how the new stuff was going over an early fall dinner. She admitted she needed help. In that humbling confession\, she soon found ways of working that helped her reimagine and reinvigorate Deep Sea Diver and led directly to the power and brilliance of Billboard Heart\, Deep Sea Diver’s fourth album and first for Sub Pop. It is a coup\, a triumph over self-doubt in which what first felt like failure became an opportunity to find new freedom\, belief\, and strength. You can hear it in each of these 11 songs\, the beating heart that makes everything here feel like a new anthem for finding your own way forward.

DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, July 17 \nGrog Shop Presents at The Beachland Ballroom:\nPelican wsg Porcelain and Axioma \nDoors 7 PM / Show 8 PM\nAll Ages\n$20 advance / $25 day of show\n+ $2 at door if under 21 \nChicago rock institution Pelican have announced that their first full length in six years\, Flickering Resonance\, is set for release May 16 via Run For Cover\, and unveiled plans for US and EU tours this Summer to follow their run supporting Russian Circles this March (full tour dates below). With founding guitarist Laurent Schroeder-Lebec rejoining the band for his first full length since 2009’s What We All Come To Need\, the album’s eight songs tap into the spirit of their formative era when Schroeder-Lebec teamed with fellow guitarist Trevor Shelley de Brauw and brothers Bryan and Larry Herweg (on bass and drums respectively) during the heyday of Chicago’s all ages hub Fireside Bowl. The venue’s variegated booking style would often result in post-hardcore\, space-rock\, indie\, metal\, and emo bands sharing bills\, unwittingly providing a vast template of influences for the young band. “A lot of people didn’t hear it at first\,” says Schroeder-Lebec of the band’s roots in a panoply of punk-related subgenres. “I was like\, well\, I guess the metal world is where we fit. But now we’re more willing to acknowledge all the suits we’re wearing.”

But\, in teen spirit\, it is more akin to Richard Wayne Penniman than Nirvana\, who allegedly changed music forever. SUMMARY:U.S. Girls
DESCRIPTION:SAT June 28 \nALL AGES \nDoors 7:30 PM / Show 8:30 PM \nOriginally from Illinois\, Meg Remy is established as one of the most acclaimed songwriters and performers to emerge from Toronto’s eclectic underground music scene where she currently lives. As the creative force behind the musical entity U.S. Girls\, her celebrated discography spans 15 years from early experimental works released on the Siltbreeze label and includes three Polaris Prize shortlisted albums on 4AD: Half Free (2015)\, In A Poem Unlimited (2018)\, and Heavy Light (2020). All three albums also garnered Juno nominations for Best Alternative Album.\n\nRemy has toured extensively through Europe and North America\, establishing a reputation for politically astute commentary and theatrical performances with her extended U.S. Girls band\, leading her to be named the best live act of 2018 by Paste Magazine. During this time\, she has maintained a visual arts practice\, exhibited collage work and directed several music videos and other video art works including her short film Woman’s Advocate (2014)\, in which she also performed. Recently\, Remy published her first book\, a memoir called Begin By Telling (2021)\, and she also made her first foray into film-scoring this year\, having been tapped for filmmaker (and fellow Torontonian) Grace Glowicki’s surreal horror-comedy Dead Lover (which world-premiered at Sundance Film Festival and featured at SXSW).\n\nAs a platform and persona\, U.S. Girls operates on a uniquely out-of-time wavelength\, alternately wronged and rueful\, classic but contemporary\, bruised vignettes of poetic Americana through a feminist lens. Her most recent album\, Bless This Mess (2023)\, marked both a divergence from and deepening of Remys songbook\, more at peace with her restless truths and moods. New music is set to follow in 2025.

SUMMARY:Illuminati Hotties w/ Georgia Maq & allie
DESCRIPTION:SUN June 15\, 2015\nALL AGES\nDoors: 7 PM\nListen to WRUW-FM to win a pair of tickets to see Superchunk on September 17 at Grog Shop!\nSarah Tudzin is in high demand these days. Not only is she a lauded engineer and producer who has helmed recent records by boygenius\, Weyes Blood\, and Speedy Ortiz\, but her own band\, Illuminati Hotties\, has also emerged as one of the sharpest and most sensitive acts on the pop-punk side of indie rock this century tender-punk\, she has often called it. On Illuminati Hotties radiant and bittersweet third LP\, Power\, Tudzin pairs that sense of modern professional busyness with scenes inspired by the extreme highs and lows of her personal life in recent years. To wit\, the day before Tudzin released 2020s surprise Free I.H\, her mother died. But weeks before that\, Tudzin had met the person who has since become her longtime partner\, the one with whom she can share all these troubles. Its not hard to imagine\, then\, all that propels Power.\n\nThis is an album\, though\, neither about loss nor love but instead about the life that we live amidst such ups and downs. While there are some beautiful blues here\, like the tender finale Everything Changes or the haunted Rot\, Tudzin mostly looks for an exuberant way through these tangles. The inescapable Falling in Love with Somebody Better is a pop-punk treasure where she wishes her mom had met her new love\, while the breezy Sleeping In finds contentment in the compromises that a good relationship demands. Loaded with guests who alternately complement Tudzin’s unfailing melodic instincts (Cavetown\, Death Cab for Cuties Jason McGerr\, John Congleton) or help her cut loose from them (especially Speedy Ortiz’s Sadie Dupuis during the riotous Whats the Fuzz)\, Power is a prime culmination of all the things that have kept Tudzin busy in recent years\, her skills in the studio\, her knack for a hook\, or the mere travails and triumphs of existence itself.

SUMMARY:Panchiko w/ Model/Actriz
DESCRIPTION:MON June 2\, 2025 \nAges: All Ages\nDoors Open: 6 PM\n\n\nOn July 21st\, 2016\, a user on 4chan’s /mu/ board posted a photo of a demo CD they’d discovered in an Oxfam charity store in Nottingham\, UK: titled D>E>A>T>H>M>E>T>A>L\, purportedly released in 1998. The listener uploaded the ripped audio to file-sharing sites\, and later YouTube\, where it began circulating around web forums. A cult of fans banded together to solve the origin story of the mysterious disc\, until eventually a long defunct local band from Nottingham who called themselves Panchiko discovered their album (limited to 30 copies) had spread virally across the internet 18 years later. \nBy popular demand Panchiko reunited touring the music of D>E>A>T>H>M>E>T>A>L to sold out audiences across the US and UK in 2022 and in May 2023 self-released a new LP titled Failed at Math(s) followed by expanded tours in the US\, UK\, and EU. Panchiko are currently in the studio crafting a new album with news to come.

SUMMARY:The Wedding Present - Bizzaro 35th Anniversary Tour w/ The Tubs
DESCRIPTION:WED May 28\, 2025 \nALL AGES \nDoors 7:00 p.m. \n  \nIn 2025\, The Wedding Present will be playing a series of concert dates in North America to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the release of their classic major-label debut long-player\, Bizarro [“Simply unbeatable” – Melody Maker]. \nDavid Gedge says “Bizarro was our second album\, and you can hear on it how much we had learned from the experience of recording our debut\, George Best. You only have to listen to something like ‘Bewitched’ to notice that there’s much more in the way of texture and depth on Bizarro. We’d just improved as songwriters and arrangers\, basically. It’s no less frenetic a record\, though!”

SUMMARY:Tennis w/ Billie Marten
DESCRIPTION:Sun May 25\, 2025  \nAges: All Ages\nDoors Open: 7:00 PM\n\nTennis is Alaina Moore and Patrick Riley. The two met in the philosophy department at the University of Colorado in 2008 after dropping out of their respective music programs. In the years after graduating\, they got involved in Denver’s DIY music scene. Through house shows\, they were connected with Underwater Peoples\, and Firetalk. Tennis’ first singles “South Carolina\,” “Baltimore\,” and “Marathon” were released in 2010. The band went blog-viral nearly overnight\, landing them a record deal with Fat Possum. Cape Dory\, (2011 on Fat Possum)\, documents Moore and Riley’s time spent living aboard a small sailboat on the Atlantic coast. The album debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Heatseeker chart\, transitioning Tennis from house-shows to stages such as Lollapalooza. Tennis recorded their sophomore effort Young & Old (2012) with Patrick Carney of the Black Keys. They made their television debut on The Tonight Show\, The Late Show\, and Conan. In 2014 they signed with Communion. The resulting release\, Ritual in Repeat was the culmination of separate recording sessions with Richard Swift\, Jim Eno and Patrick Carney. Moore and Riley were greatly influenced by Richard Swift’s approach to recording and engineering\, prompting Riley’s decision to take over as engineer on their future releases. With shifting labels and new interests\, Tennis chose an alternate path for their band and career. In 2016\, Moore and Riley formed the label Mutually Detrimental and began self-releasing. Their newfound freedom allowed them to return to their sailboat to write their next full-length\, this time in the Sea of Cortez. Yours Conditionally\, released in 2017\, became their most commercially successful album–charting at #4 on Billboard’s Independent list and in the top 100 highest selling vinyl releases that year. They played Coachella and opened for artists like The National\, Father John Misty and The Shins–proving their DIY roots as a cornerstone to their sound and narrative. Their follow up Swimmer (2020)\, was recorded in their home studio with Moore and Riley producing and engineering. The pair brought their long-time touring member Steve Voss in for the second time to drum on record. The singles\, Need Your Love and Runner\, were Tennis’ most successful releases to date. With nearly every show on tour sold-out (including two consecutive nights at Brooklyn Steel) the album’s campaign was cut short by the Covid-19 pandemic. Pollen\, Tennis’ sixth studio album is due on February 10\, 2023 (Mutually Detrimental).
