SUMMARY:WRUW-FM Telethon 2026
DESCRIPTION:What: WRUW-FM Telethon 2026\nWhen: March 23\, 2026 at 12 AM ET – March 29\, 2026 at 11:59 ET\nHow to Donate: Go to telethon.wruw.org OR call 216.368.2208 between 8 AM – 12 AM \nWRUW-FM 91.1 Cleveland’s annual Telethon fundraiser begins Monday\, March 23 and runs until Sunday\, March 29. Telethon is the one time of the year that we ask for financial contributions to support our mission of preserving the college radio listening experience and bringing “more music\, fewer hits\,” to the Greater Cleveland airwaves\, as well as globally\, via online streaming at wruw.org.  \nWRUW-FM is Case Western Reserve University’s independent\, non-commercial radio station\, broadcasting freeform music programs ranging from jazz\, EDM\, metal\, folk\, indie\, showtunes and more 24 hours a day\, 7 days a week. WRUW showcases local talent live on-air during “Live From Cleveland” and amplifies the voices of our community on public affairs programming like “It’s About Justice”\, “Voices and Choices”\, and “Gaywaves” in addition to being the largest carrier of the weekday syndicated news program “Democracy Now” in the state of Ohio.  \nIn 2025\, listener donations made it possible for us to purchase a new radio transmitter\, reel-to-reel machine\, two new digitizing robots\, and live broadcast equipment. This year\, we are focusing on raising money to cover the cost of installation of the new transmitter and supporting technology. This investment in our signal will improve sound quality\, prevent drop outs\, and fix other technical issues\, giving our audience the best listening experience possible.  \n2026 has been a challenging year for non-commercial radio with dwindling arts-based funding and competition for control over the FM dial at an all-time high. WRUW-FM is vital to Cleveland’s music ecosystem\, providing an accessible means for anyone to hear new\, alternative sounds and underrepresented voices. This year\, our college radio community has demonstrated their amazing ability to band together to protect freedom of expression on the left side of the dial. We encourage people to call from March 23-29 to 216.368.22008 to make their donation or contribute online at telethon.wruw.org to help us meet our fundraising goals and support our mission. \nTHANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!

SUMMARY:Jordana w/ Kelcey Ayer
DESCRIPTION:Jordana w/ Kelcey Ayer \nDoors 7 PM | Show 8 PM\nALL AGES \nJordana’s music has always possessed a unique sense of place. \nYou can hear the stillness of a Kansas bedroom on her 2020 debut Classical Notions… Humid late night New York walks on her double EP Something To Say To You. There’s the kaleidoscopic otherworldliness of Summer’s Over\, her collab release with TV Girl. The unmistakable sunshine of LA on 2024’s Lively Premonitions. But on her new semi self-titled project\, Jordanaland\, the 25-year-old songwriter has officially crafted a place all her own. \n“Jordanaland is definitely an escape from Americaland. It looks a lot like LA in the videos…for some reason. Weird\,” muses Jordana. “But it’s wherever you want it to be\, just close your eyes.”

SUMMARY:The Obsessed w/ The Great Iron Snake / Radian / Bessemer Saints
DESCRIPTION:7 PM Doors | 8 PM Show\nAll Ages\n$18.50 ADV / $22 DOS \nSince their formation in 1978\, they have become known around the world for their influential contribution to the origins and continued legacy of the doom metal and underground hard rock genres. The distinctive vocals and guitar wizardry of founder and driving force Scott “Wino” Weinrich has left a mark on the world of heavy music that continues to inspire. \nThe Obsessed gained momentum in the Baltimore/DC area of the USA in the early to mid 1980’s during the height of the hardcore punk movement. Often cited as the band that bridged heavy metal and punk together\, the band gained the respect of punk heavy weight contemporaries Black Flag\, The Bad Brains\, and Minor Threat\, to name a few. The attitude and spirit of The Obsessed has led many to regard them as “America’s Motorhead”. \nWino went on to join the doom metal giants Saint Vitus as lead singer on seminal albums including 1986’s ‘Born Too Late’‘. In 1990\, The Obsessed came back with their eponymous debut album\, “The Obsessed”. This album was quickly followed by 1991’s “Lunar Womb” and 1994’s “The Church within. \nThe band then signed with Relapse Records and recorded 2017’s “Sacred”\, an album showing The Obsessed were back with pure vengeance. Sacred brought the band to venues and festival stages around the world. \nIn 2022 the band became a four piece with the addition of Chris Angleberger on bass and Jason Taylor on guitar. The band has been touring heavily since and have been seen on USA and European festival stages such as HellFest\, Freak Valley Festival\, Snowblind Festival and multiple DesertFests. \nThe band’s 2024 album\, Gilded Sorrow\, on Ripple Music\, marked a new chapter in their legacy. The album captures the essence of the band’s classic sound while adding a fresh new atmosphere with a dual guitar attack. In 2025\, Bob Pantella (The Atomic Bitchwax\, Monster Magnet\, Raging Slab) joined The Obsessed on drums. To quote Wino\, “This is the strongest The Obsessed has ever been. We are geared up and ready to play. We will be hitting your city soon!”

SUMMARY:LaMP: Russ Lawton\, Scott Metzger\, Ray w/ Da Land Brass Band
DESCRIPTION:Doors 7 PM | Show 8 PM\nALL AGES\n$20 advance / $25 day of show \nInterstate jammers LaMP — featuring Vermont-based Russ Lawton (drums) and Ray Paczkowski (keys)\, alongside Brooklynite Scott Metzger (guitar) — distill singular\, road-honed improv instincts into taut\, instrumental epics. \nWhile each of the players has extensive experience with other gigs — Lawton and Paczkowski with the Trey Anastasio Band (TAB) and Soule Monde\, and Metzger through projects such as Joe Russo’s Almost Dead (JRAD) and Medeski\, Martin\, Metzger & Cline (MMMC) — LaMP has hewed its own path. \nThe trio is currently touring behind their second studio collection\, One Of Us\, that packs 10 tracks into 35-minutes of kaleidoscopic interplay and club-shifting grooves. It’s the cleanest distillation of the LaMP sound yet\, a mission statement of improvisational group-think and compositional chops. \nThroughout its runtime\, One Of Us acts as a showcase for the myriad of sonic flavors LaMP brings to the table\, delivering a listen which works both as deep headphone immersion or a packable-party custom-tailored to deliver the jams to upcoming 2025 tour hangs. \nAs word has spread and crowds have grown with each subsequent tour\, it’s become clear that LaMP ft. Russ Lawton\, Scott Metzger & Ray Paczkowski will be a musical force to be reckoned with for the foreseeable future.

SUMMARY:Spiritual Cramp w/ GUV / Imploders / The Carp
DESCRIPTION:Doors 7 PM | Show 8 PM\nALL AGES\n$20 advance | $24 day of show\n+ $3 at door if under 21 \nSpiritual Cramp aren’t looking for a soapbox. The San Francisco-born punk experimentalists are here to flash a big smile\, flip you off\, deliver a burst of musical adrenaline\, and then keep on walking. “But at the same time\, that’s something that I’m working on\,” vocalist Michael Bingham knowingly grins. And on their upcoming sophomore album\, RUDE (due TK via Blue Grape Music)\, Spiritual Cramp discover a newfound balance between that impish cheekiness\, emotional vulnerability\, and rabid energy. “When you focus on yourself and the people around you\, you can keep your side of the street clean\,” Bingham says. “And when I see the opposite of that\, I get kind of offended\, which is what a lot of these songs are about.” \nFrom the very first seconds of RUDE’s opening track “I’m an Anarchist”\, Spiritual Cramp make it clear what their side of the street is. The record is framed with the tuning of an FM dial and the voice of DJ Crash (played by percussionist Jose Luna)\, introducing Wild 87 Radio and the “San Francisco rude boy sound.” The fictitious radio station takes its name from the band’s original moniker prior to renaming themselves after a song by southern California rockers Christian Death\, and recurs on the album as a way to keep the band grounded in their SF roots. “My foundation is in San Francisco\, California\, and from there I can go anywhere and be who I am\,” Bingham says. The song that follows the radio intro similarly grounds listeners in the Spiritual Cramp musical language\, Bingham delivering tongue-in-cheek sloganeering (“I’m an anarchist\, so leave me alone”) over clap-along sunshine punk. \nWhile Spiritual Cramp have perfected their kaleidoscopic take on rock over nearly a decade\, the gleeful RUDE marks the start of a new era for the band. Bingham and bassist Mike Fenton have been the band’s constants in that time—not to mention having worked on other projects together prior—and wrote the majority of Spiritual Cramp’s songs on their own across a series of lineup changes. But after a seemingly endless tour in support of their self-titled 2023 debut\, their new lineup of Bingham\, Fenton\, percussionist Luna\, guitarists Nate Punty and Orville Neeley III\, and drummer Julian Smith gelled to the point that the co-founders decided to bring everyone into the room for the writing process. “It really helped give color and energy to the whole record\,” Fenton says. The results are nothing short of ecstatic\, bounding between new wave burn\, indie rock swagger\, old-school punk\, and even dub and hip-hop flourishes

SUMMARY:Nuovo Testamento w/ Dark Chisme
DESCRIPTION:Dark Wave Dance Cave presents Nuovo Testamento w/ Dark Chisme \nDoors 7 PM | Show 8 PM\nALL AGES \nThe Los Angeles-based trio\, Nuovo Testamento\, is lighting up the dance floor with their uniquely dark italo disco-flavored pop hits. Following the release of the coldwave cult favorite Exposure EP in 2019 on Avant! Records\, their acclaimed full length\, New Earth\, exploded onto the scene with its graceful touch of 1980s-influenced club elements\, contagious rhythms and the powerful punch of synthpop. The release was widely considered across genres to be one of 2021’s best underground albums. With the release of their highly anticipated second LP in early 2023\, Love Lines\, Nuovo Testamento continued to explore the light\, the dark and exultant personal power in what will undoubtedly become an instant dance classic. Following a celebrated remix for Scowl and full North American tours supporting the Soft Moon and Molchat Doma\, Nuovo Testamento is on tour in the US and Europe throughout 2024.

SUMMARY:Daffo w/ earth 2 tiffany
DESCRIPTION:Daffo w/ earth 2 Tiffany \nDoors 7 PM | Show 8 PM \nALL AGES \nAn essential new voice on the indie-rock scene\, 21-year-old singer/songwriter Daffo brings an unexpected beauty to the most uncomfortable of feelings. With a poetic specificity that cuts right to the heart\, the Los Angeles-based artist speaks an unfiltered truth about all that sets them apart from the wider world\, confronting everything from shame and self-loathing to misplaced affection and the chaos of living with an overactive brain. Originally from the Philadelphia suburbs\, the musician otherwise known as Gabi Gamberg started writing songs after taking up guitar at age nine\, then later shaped their sound by playing countless DIY shows in backyards and basements in New York City and New Jersey. After spending much of the past year on tour with the likes of Sir Chloe and illuminati hotties\, Daffo now makes their full-length debut with Where the Earth Bends: a one-of-a-kind coming-of-age album that finds powerful catharsis in painful confession.

Twenty brand new songs for twenty years. The endless miles in pursuit of a dream. The surreal\, whirlwind shows of transcendence and lore. SUMMARY:Codefendants w/ Heart & Lung and Skuff Micksun
DESCRIPTION:Codefendants w/ Heart & Lung and Skuff Micksun \nDoors 7 PM | Show 8 PM \nALL AGES \nat Grog Shop \nFat Mike of NOFX‘s newly launched project\, Codefendants\, are the breath of fresh air and the steel-toe-cap kick in the nuts music has needed for too long. Get Dead vocalist Sam King’s graffiti crew were giving tattoos and making flash art to raise money to help rapper Ceschi Ramos when he was in prison. Months later they met at the Gilman Street Project in Berkeley\, California. They bonded\, talking about their love of hip-hop and punk rock\, over a bottle of Jameson. They didn’t know it yet\, but they had just started Codefendants. Impossible to define by traditional standards\, Codefendants were forged out of a desire to make an album that sounded like nothing else; a completely genre-fluid album\, a cross between hip hop\, new-wave\, flamenco\, and the Beatles. They call the genre ‘Crime Wave’.

SUMMARY:Wine Lips w/ Mr. Phylzzz and The Rosies
DESCRIPTION:Wine Lips w/ Mr. Phylzzz and The Rosies \nDoors 7:30 PM | Show 8:30 PM \nALL AGES \nat Grog Shop \nIt’s been one hell of a wild ride for Wine Lips. \nOriginally formed in Toronto back in 2015 as a part-time project between Cam Hilborn (vox\, songwriter\, guitar) and drummer extraordinaire Aurora Evans\, Wine Lips quickly escalated into a full-blown\, full-time\, full-on international phenomenon. Their debut album took them across North America followed immediately by an intensive and unexpected tour of Hong Kong and China in 2018. They released their massive “Stressor” album the very next year (2019) to rave reviews and massive critical acclaim. Multiple tracks from Stressor charted across North America and Europe radio\, while several songs ended up being featured in broadcast and Netflix series. Endless touring ensued. \nThen 2020 happened. The band used their mandatory downtime to fully dedicate themselves to crafting their groundbreaking third full-length “Mushroom Death Sex Bummer Party” (recorded by Simon Larochette at Sugar Shack). The record was released in October 2021 and then shit really hit the fan. The international music press lost their collective minds\, penning over 250 glowing features and super positive reviews spanning 35+ countries. At the time of writing\, the album is rapidly approaching 20 Million spins on Spotify alone. The vinyl release of MDSBP is currently in its 7th pressing with 9 different colour variants. The lead track “Eyes” has been licensed to a metric ton of films\, series and video games including ABC’s The Rookie\, Hockey Night In Canada and VR Skater. Even more endless touring ensued\, except this time the venues were huge and mostly sold-out. \nWhich brings us to the new record… “Super Mega Ultra” is an absolute beast. Recorded by Simon Larochette at The Sugar Shack in Ontario\, the album is jam-packed with 12 ramped-up supersonic ear-scorching auditor delicacies. SMU is probably Wine Lips’ most ambitious undertaking to date\, exploring new thematic territory while firmly maintaining their signature psych garage punk rock panache. You truly need to hear the album to believe it… And if you haven’t already guessed\, more endless touring is booked for 2024. The wild ride continues!

SUMMARY:Florry
DESCRIPTION:Doors 7 PM | Show 8 PM \nALL AGES \nA far cry from the cool\, calculated distance and reserved posture that is all-too-familiar to the indie-rock sphere\, Florry\, the Philly-bred septet and songwriting vehicle of bandleader Francie Medosch\, are marking their territory as a band resolving to do something very different: they are having a really good time out there. \nCutting her teeth in the Philadelphia DIY scene starting in 2019 as a student at Temple University\, the early days of Florry found Medosch at the end of her teenage years releasing a slew of singles and EP’s in a familiar idiom of lo-fi bedroom recordings tinged with country melancholy. A lot has changed since then. Most importantly\, perhaps\, the project snowballed into a barn-burning seven piece rock band in the proceeding years; and without sacrificing any of the emotional immediacy that’s come to define Medosch’s brashly earnest\, bleeding-heart lyrical style\, you’re unlikely to find her lingering as much on the melancholy these days. Or\, as Medosch plainly puts it in regards to Sounds Like… \, the band’s forthcoming LP: \n“The Jackass theme song was actually a really big influence on the new album” \nThe release of their 2023 formal full-length debut The Holey Bible (via Dear Life) found Medosch now flanked by six bandmates and trafficking in a wider\, more rock-oriented approach with the bravado of someone with a new lease on life. With Jon Cox (Sadurn\, Son of Barb) on pedal steel\, John Murray on electric guitar\, Colin Dennen on bass\, Will Henrikson on fiddle\, Katya Malison (Doll Spirit Vessel) on Vox\, and Joey Sullivan (Bark Culturr) on drums\, Florry 2.0 had arrived. The retooled seven-piece embraced a lengthy run of tours dialing in their new kinetic sound and freewheeling chemistry including runs with Fust\, MJ Lenderman\, Greg Freeman\, and Real Estate. Greeted to critical acclaim upon its release\, with positive notices from outlets including Pitchfork\, Stereogum\, Paste\, and Brooklyn Vegan\, the album quickly introduced Florry to an expanded audience and pointed a way forward for Medosch and the band at a time when the future wasn’t so clear. \n“I had a job lined up selling insurance\, I guess I figured that was that\, you know?” \nAs it turns out\, that was not that. A few days went by\, and then the phone started ringing. From managers\, from booking agents\, from indie-rock elder statesman Kurt Vile\, who took the band on the road in support of his 2023 Back to Moon Beach LP. \nOn the winkingly titled Sounds Like… \, the band’s second full-length release via Dear Life\, Florry is picking up right where they left off in 2023. Again upping the ante with a bigger\, brighter\, more abrasive sound that resembles something closer to Rolling Thunder Revue-era Bob Dylan than their humble DIY roots. Across ten tracks\, the band wear their influences on their sleeve while carving out a space that is distinctly their own\, blending raw honky-tonk grit and rich instrumental textures with the disarming sincerity and intimacy of the group’s lo-fi beginnings. It’s a record about searching—searching for home\, for love\, for meaning\, and for a sound that captures it all.

SUMMARY:Acid Mother's Temple w/ The Macks
DESCRIPTION:Doors 7 PM | Show 8 PM \nALL AGES \nFormed in 1995 by Makoto Kawabata at the same time as the Acid Mothers Temple Soul Collective. The group released its debut album in 1997 on PSF Records (Japan)\, and it was selected as one of the year’s best albums in the The Wire magazine (UK). In 1998 the group played their first tours of the US and Europe. Since then the group has released a huge number of albums on labels from many different countries. As of 2017\, the group has released around 80 albums. Every year since 1998\, they have toured extensively in the US and Europe\, and more recently have started performing around Asia and in Japan too. The group has performed in collaboration with many musicians including psychedelic originators Gong and Guru Guru\, Simeon (Silver Apples)\, Nik Turner (Hawkwind)\, and the Occitanian trad singer Rosina de Peira. Japanese collaborators have included Afrirampo\, Tatsuya Yoshida (Ruins)\, Maso Yamazaki (Masonna)\, Seiichi Yamamoto (Boredoms)\, Jun Kuriyama (The Ox)\, and many others. \nTo begin with the group had a floating line-up with contributions from many members of the AMT Soul Collective. But as tours became more frequent\, the group began to coalesce around a core touring line-up. Other bands were created with Acid Mothers Temple as part of their name (AMT & The Cosmic Inferno\, AMT SWR\, AMT & The Space Paranoid\, AMT & Infinity Rising Zero\, Acid Mothers Gong\, Acid Mothers Guru Guru\, Acid Moon Temple\, etc.)\, but AMT & The Melting Paraiso U.F.O. has continued to function as the mothership and main lineage for all our activities. \nIn 2016\, twenty one years since the group’s founding\, there was a major shift in the line-up and “Next Generation” was added to the name. We now view the first twenty years as chapter one in our story\, and we are now turning the page to start chapter two. The group played more than 100 shows in each year\, toured in Europe\, North America\, South America\, Oceania and Asia\, also Japan. They also played many festivals (Glastonbury Festival in UK\, Levitation in US and France\, Rock In Opposition in France\, Standon Calling in UK\, Kuala Lumpur Experimental Film\, Video & Music Festival in Malaysia\, LUC fest 貴人散步音樂節 in Taiwan\, etc). \nDuring pandemic\, they launched their official Bandcamp\, have released more than 60 albums (including many unreleased materials)\, and have toured in Japan in each year. And they played the streaming festival “Levitation Sessions”. They organized “Acid Mothers Olympic 2021” against “Tokyo Olympics 2021”\, they originated and played a new style of “music sports”. Finally the group went to the first European tour in Autumn 2022 and North American tour in Spring and Autumn 2023\, after pandemic. 2024\, the group will tour in Europe in Spring and North America in Autumn. \nThe current touring line-up is: Kawabata Makoto\, Higashi Hiroshi\, Satoshima Nani\, Sawano Shozo and Jyonson Tsu since 2022.

SUMMARY:Destroyer: Dan's Boogie Tour w/ Jennifer Castle
DESCRIPTION:MON Oct 6\, 2025 \nALL AGES \nDoors: 7 PM \nWhat is a “boogie”? In the common tongue\, it’s a dance or an occasion to dance\, a song or a shindig\, an incitement to move\, quickly\, whether it’s on the floor or out of town\, getting down or lying low. This being a Destroyer album and not the common tongue\, the implications of a title like Dan’s Boogie are at once more alluring and dangerous. “A boogie is a hustle\, a scam that doesn’t quite work\, the moves we make when we’re up against it\,” explains Dan Bejar (ex-New Pornographers). “I think of spy work\, double agents\, sleeping with one eye open\, an eye on the exits. SUMMARY:Lene Lovich w/ Metrolight
DESCRIPTION:Doors 7 PM | Show 8 PM \nALL AGES \nLene Lovich\, the Post-Punk/New Wave icon who could count John Lennon and Frank Zappa among her fans\, is set to return to the United States for the first time in 18 years this fall. She will undertake her first full North American tour in 35 years\, playing 25 shows across the country beginning in Des Moines on September 16th. \nBorn in Detroit\, Lene and her mother relocated to the city of Hull in northern England when Lene was 12 years old. Inspired by the music of her hometown as well as the flamboyant “British Invasion” sounds coming out of swinging London in the 1960s. She had a particular fondness for fellow American expat Jimi Hendrix\, and recalled that although she had no money for the bus fare and was too young to legally attend the concert\, when Hendrix played in Hull she slipped out of the house and walked all the way across the city to sit outside the stage door and listen to him play. \nLovich moved to London in the mid-1970s just as the Sex Pistols were about to seize the nation by the proverbial throat\, forming a band with her partner Les Chappell\, and soon beginning to make a name for herself with her flamboyant style and effervescent live performances. She came to the attention of Oval Music moguls Charlie Gillett and Gordon Nelki\, whom had recently helped to launch the careers of Ian Dury and Elvis Costello\, taking Lene to the same independent record label\, Stiff Records\, that had been at the vanguard of punk and New Wave in the UK\, with debut releases from The Damned and Devo\, as well as the aforementioned Dury and Costello\, and Stiff Records house producer Nick Lowe. \nLene rocketed to the top of the UK charts with her second single on Stiff\, the unforgettable “Lucky Number”\, in 1979. The success of the single propelled her debut album Stateless to instant cult status\, where it remains to this day\, a classic of its time and hugely influential on the burgeoning 1980s post-punk Goth subculture. Lene’s second album\, Flex\, released in 1980 was arguably even more influential in the United States than Stateless. \nLene toured America successfully many times during the 80s\, and her band included Thomas Dolby on keyboards\, with whom she co-wrote her biggest selling US single “New Toy”. Her third album\, No Man’s Land\, released in 1982\, seemed poised to become her commercial breakthrough in America. Alas by then her relationship with Stiff had deteriorated. She released the album March in 1989 on the independent label Pathfinder Records\, and toured America one more time\, in 1990\, subsequently retreating from the limelight to raise a family in rural England. \nSporadic collaborations and extremely rare live appearances was all that was seen of her for many years\, until the release of the album Shadows and Dust in 2005. With her daughters now grown up\, Lene returned to regular live performances in 2012 when she and guitarist Jude Rawlins formed the Lene Lovich Band to take her classic material back on the road. The band garnered huge acclaim across the UK and Europe\, where they have toured consistently ever since. Finally\, in 2025\, America will get the chance to see what they’ve been missing for far too long\, the iconic and unique Lene Lovich at full volume.

SUMMARY:Dry Cleaning w/ Infinity Knives + Brian Ennals
DESCRIPTION:Doors 7 PM | Show 8 PM \nALL AGES \nAs soon as Dry Cleaning finished their debut album New Long Leg – critically acclaimed across the board and number four in the UK album charts – they immediately set about moving fowards. Having already started writing their second record before their first was released\, they proposed to producer John Parish that they spend twice as much time on the follow-up\, Stumpwork. \nListen to the album and you can feel that increased boldness – vocals which coil tightly around deft and complex riffs\, great meshes of instrumental texture and the willingness to launch into full-on abstraction. It is a heady mix that is entirely Dry Cleaning’s own\, distinguishing from their contemporaries. “We felt more confident\,” says guitarist Tom Dowse. “We could see the bigger picture and knew where to focus our energy more efficiently.”

SUMMARY:Brian Jonestown Massacre
DESCRIPTION:Tue Sep 16\, 2025 \nAges: All Ages\nDoors Open: 7:00 PM\n\n\nNamed in tribute to the legendary Rolling Stones guitarist and his influence in introducing Eastern culture and music into the world of Western rock & roll\, the Brian Jonestown Massacre formed in San Francisco\, CA\, in 1990. Some 40 different members passed through the group’s ranks over the next half-decade\, but their focal point always remained singer/guitarist Anton Newcombe\, who along with bassist Matt Hollywood\, guitarist Dean Taylor\, organist Mara Regal\, accordionist Dawn Thomas\, drummer Brian Glaze\, and “Spokesperson for the Revolution” Joel Gion\, recorded the Massacre’s 1995 shoegazer-influenced debut LP\, ‘Methodrone.’ A collection of early recordings\, ‘Spacegirl and Other Favorites\,’ followed on the band’s own Tangible label in early 1996\, and was the first of four Brian Jonestown Massacre LPs to appear that year. Next up was the brilliant\, ‘Their Satanic Majesties’ Second Request\,’ a full-blown homage to the Stones’ glorious psychedelic-era excesses. Recorded live in the studio\, the grittier ‘Take It from the Man!’ found the band exploring even broader territory. Finally\, the year ended with the release of ‘Thank God for Mental Illness\,’ a showcase for strong country and blues leanings. \nIn 1997\, the BJM — now consisting of Newcombe\, Hollywood\, Gion\, Taylor\, Peter Hayes and drummer Brad Artley — resurfaced with ‘Give It Back!’ After signing to TVT\, they released ‘Strung Out in Heaven’ the following year\, but the band’s own eccentricities kept them from staying on the label. After a few scattered EPs\, they resurfaced in 2001 with ‘Bravery\, Repetition and Noise\,’ distributed by Bomp. ‘And This Is Our Music’ followed in 2003. Despite a continued lack of major distribution\, the Brian Jonestown Massacre earned the largest profile of their career in 2004\, when the band became the unlikely focus of an award-winning documentary\, ‘DIG!\,’ which charted the trials of Newcombe and those of his rival\, Courtney Taylor\, leader of the Dandy Warhols. The ‘We Are the Radio’ EP followed in August 2005. \nThree years later\, Anton Newcombe reinvented the band as he had obtained all the releases of his past albums & formed his own label\, ‘a’ Recordings. His first new album on this label was ‘My Bloody Underground\,’ featuring yet another lineup and a hint of shoegaze and noise pop. ‘Who Killed Sgt Pepper?’ followed shortly after\, being made available in streaming format at the end of 2009 and receiving an official release on February 27th\, 2010.

SUMMARY:Sparks - MAD! Tour
DESCRIPTION:Doors 7 PM | Show 8 PM \nALL AGES \nSparks is an American pop and rock duo formed by brothers Ron (keyboards) and Russell Mael (vocals) in Pacific Palisades\, Los Angeles in 1971. The duo is noted for their quirky approach to songwriting; their music is often accompanied by sophisticated and acerbic lyrics—often about women\, and sometimes containing literary or cinematic references—and an idiosyncratic\, theatrical stage presence\, typified by the contrast between Russell’s animated\, hyperactive frontman antics and Ron’s deadpan scowling. Russell Mael has a distinctive wide-ranging voice\, while Ron Mael plays keyboards in an intricate and rhythmic style. Their frequently changing styles and visual presentations have kept the band at the forefront of modern\, artful pop music.

SUMMARY:Molly Tuttle w/ Town Mountain\, Cecilia Castleman
DESCRIPTION:Doors 7 PM | Show 8 PM \nALL AGES \nOn the heels of two Grammy-winning albums in succession\, with her band Golden Highway—2022’s Crooked Tree and 2023’s City of Gold—plus a nomination for Best New Artist\, Molly Tuttle returns with a solo album that’s her most dazzling to date: So Long Little Miss Sunshine. \nRecorded in Nashville with producer Jay Joyce (Orville Peck\, Miranda Lambert\, Lainey Wilson\, Eric Church\, Cage the Elephant)\, the fifth full album from the California-born\, Nashville-based singer\, songwriter\, and virtuoso guitarist features twelve new songs—eleven originals and one highly unexpected cover of Icona Pop and Charli xcx’s “I Love It.” \nTuttle’s career\, which began at age fifteen\, has charted a course between honoring bluegrass and stretching its boundaries. On this album—a hybrid of pop\, country\, rock\, and flat-picking\, plus one murder ballad—she goes to a whole new place. Her stunning guitar work is more up-front on this album than ever before. (One of the most decorated female guitarist alive\, Tuttle was the first woman to win the prestigious International Bluegrass Music Award’s Guitar Player of the Year in 2017\, at age twenty-four\, and won again the following year\, with nominations nearly every year since; she has also won Americana Music Association’s Instrumentalist of the Year award.) So Long Little Miss Sunshine also features Tuttle playing banjo\, something she’s never done on one of her albums before. \n“I like to be a bit of a chameleon with my music\,” she says. “Keep people guessing and keep it full of surprises.” \nTuttle has been slowly building this collection of songs over the last five years\, while also writing and releasing two hugely successful albums and a six-song EP (last year’s Into the Wild) and playing more than 100 shows each year with Golden Highway. Along the way she’d send songs to Joyce\, who she first started talking to about collaborating on the album a few years ago. \n“I’ve been wanting to make this record for such a long time. Part of me was scared to do such a big departure\, and that went into the album title So Long Little Miss Sunshine. It’s like\, ‘You know what? I’m just not going to care what people think. I’m going to do what I want.’” \nThe album was recorded with a group of musicians that includes drummer/percussionists Jay Bellerose and Fred Eltringham\, bassist Byron House\, and Joyce on multiple instruments. Ketch Secor (Old Crow Medicine Show) also plays banjo\, fiddle\, and harmonica\, as well as singing harmony. \nTuttle also conceived the artwork for So Long Little Miss Sunshine\, which features multiple Mollys\, each wearing a different wig except for one with nothing on her head at all. (“I probably own as many wigs as I own guitars\,” she says.) Tuttle has been bald since she was three years old due to the autoimmune condition alopecia areata; she acts as a spokesperson for the National Alopecia Areata Foundation. \n“I love raising awareness\,” she says. “I talk about it onstage a lot and broaden it to include anyone who’s ever had something that makes them stick out and look or feel different from others. Playing my song ‘Crooked Tree’ live is very meaningful to me\, because it’s a moment where sometimes I’ll take off my wig and talk about my struggles with self-acceptance.” \nOne album track\, “Old Me (New Wig)\,” is “about leaving all these things behind that don’t serve you anymore\,” she says. “Parts of yourself that really aren’t in your best interest\, like low self-esteem\, anxieties\, and not feeling confident. Learning to own these different aspects of my personality but not letting them control me is another theme of the record that inspired the album title and the cover art. Those are all things I’ve struggled with through the years—just feeling like an impostor\, like I wasn’t good enough. I like singing this song because there are days when I still have to tell myself to leave that stuff behind.’” \nMost of the So Long Little Miss Sunshine songs were co-written with Secor\, who is also Tuttle’s partner. “We spend so much time together\, we live together\, and anytime I have a song idea\, or he has one\, it’s just so easy to transition from whatever we’re doing into writing a song.” \nAlthough they were written in different times and circumstances\, Tuttle found to her surprise that the songs were all tied together by interwoven themes. The opening track\, “Everything Burns”—a dark\, intense\, big-guitar song—was written in 2020\, during the chaos and division of the start of the Covid pandemic. It might as easily refer to the current chaos and division in America since Election Day 2024\, though. In fact\, they recorded it the day after the election. \nThere are several songs about traveling—sometimes down the open road\, like “Highway Knows” and “Oasis”—but also back in time\, as on “Easy” and “Golden State of Mind.” \nThe record also tells “a kind of coming-of-age story\,” Tuttle says. “‘Golden State of Mind’ is one of the songs I feel is a through-line to that. It makes me think about people I’ve been close to in the past that I’ve drifted away from\, and about growing up and figuring out who you are.” \nThat theme is in turn picked up in the beautiful ballad “No Regrets\,” one of the last songs Tuttle wrote for the album. “It’s about looking back on your life and thinking\, ‘Well\, maybe I could have done things differently\, but if I hadn’t made certain mistakes or gone down certain roads\, then I wouldn’t be here.’ And I really like where I am now!” \nSo Long Little Miss Sunshine closes\, as her last two albums did\, with an autobiographical song\, “Story of My So-Called Life.” “This is me looking back on my life\, from growing up to going to school in Boston to moving to Nashville to where I am now—taking stock of all these pivotal moments throughout my life that made me who I am. I feel like after I’ve said so much in all the other songs\, it’s just kind of nice to end it on a note of\, ‘Here’s how this all came to be\,’” she says. \n***** \nEarlier this year\, Tuttle played guitar and sang on Ringo Starr’s new country album\, Look Up. She also played with him and a host of other stellar musical guests at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium and Grand Ole Opry as part of his televised Ringo & Friends shows. She was inspired by his fearlessness in following his passion for country music. “It is cool to see someone like that who has done everything you could imagine doing in a music career and he’s still just so psyched and still has a list of things that he wants to accomplish\,” Tuttle says. \nLooking back on her own career\, Tuttle admits that she also has pursued what interests her: “It has never been a cookie-cutter thing where I’m just going down a straight road. I always had this crooked path.”
