CLOUD NOTHINGS w/ special guest DEATH OF SAMANTHA TO HEADLINE WRUW'S 31ST ANNUAL STUDIO-A-RAMA SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 8TH
Neal Dare Waves
Now in its 31ST year,
Studio-A-Rama is WRUW's annual FREE, outdoor, day-long rock
concert. This year's headliners are Cleveland's own Cloud Nothings. Hot off a hugely acclaimed album, "Attack on
Memory", a performance on "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon", and
international touring and festival appearances, Cloud Nothings will headline
this year's Studio-A-Rama. Led by Dylan Baldi (who performed at Studio-A-Rama
in 2009 with Neon Tongues), and featuring members of local bands such as
Swindlella, Mole People, and Spacer Ace, Cloud Nothings run the gamut from
bright power-pop to abrasive, searing post-hardcore. Catch them in such an
intimate local setting while you still can!
Since
last year's "special guest" pre-headlining performance by Ohio's
Scrawl was such a hit, we're featuring another historic Ohio band as this
year's special guest - Cleveland's own Death of Samantha. A staple in
the local circuit of the 1980s, Death of Samantha are back from a 22-year long
hiatus. After a sellout Beachland Ballroom performance last December, and an
appearance at this year's South By Southwest, Death of Samantha will be
returning to Studio-A-Rama - it's been a long time coming.
Studio-A-Rama,
WRUW's annual free, outdoor 10 hour rock show, is both a thank you to WRUW
listeners and a testament to WRUW's commitment to live (and free) music.
The concert begins at 1:00PM in the Mather Memorial Courtyard (11220 Bellflower
Rd., Cleveland OH, 44106), outside the studios of WRUW. The full concert
line-up is as follows:
1:00PM - The Lawton Brothers (rootsy guitar rock)
2:00PM - R. A. Washington and the Family Dollar (9-piece
R&B outfit with rock influences)
3:00PM - Gossip Culture (electro synth suave rock)
4:00PM - Library Time (upbeat indie rock)
5:00PM - Pleasure Leftists (post-punk inspired leftist
rock)
6:00PM - Village Bicycle (all female indie pop)
7:00PM - Dreadful Yawns (guitar rock)
8:00PM - Herzog Yawns (catchy power pop/rock)
9:00PM - Cleveland legends Death Of Samantha
10:30PM to Midnight - Headliners Cloud Nothings
The
entire show shall be simulcast over 15,000 watts (Ohio's most powerful college
radio station) on 91.1 FM, and also webcast around the world on www.wruw.org. Studio-A-Rama also demonstrates WRUW's commitment to
local and regional music, giving bands the opportunity to play before hundreds
of people, opening for a national headliner. Since 1982, WRUW has staged
this free annual concert designed to thank listeners for their ongoing support
throughout the year, and especially during WRUW's annual telethon. An
enthusiastic audience response during the annual on-air fundraiser enables WRUW
to continue hosting Studio-A-Rama as well as fund live webcasting and support
local music and live music. Studio-A-Rama is one part of WRUW-FM's
commitment to broadcasting local bands live. The "Live From
Cleveland" show broadcasts bands from the WRUW-FM studios every Thursday
evening from 10 until 11pm, and WRUW also simulcasts the live music from the
main stage of the annual Hessler St. Fair, the Summer Solstice, the Cleveland
Irish Festival, and Little Italy's Feast Of The Assumption.
